The House of Representatives on 11 July 2024, ratified the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Cyprus and the Government of the United States of America on cooperation on the use of travel information, which was signed on June 17, 2024.
The agreement is a condition for the participation of Cyprus in the USA Visa Waiver programme and establishes the sharing of travel information between USA and Cyprus, including the risk assessment of people capable of terrorist acts.
Under the Visa Waiver programme, Cypriot nationals who hold an e-passport, would be permitted to enter the US and seek admission to travel for up to 90 days under B-1 or B-2 categories however, Cypriot applicants will be excluded from submitting visa applications at the US Embassy and having face-to-face interviews with the US consular officers prior to the trip.
According to the Cyprus government’s spokesperson, Mr. Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the goal is Cyprus to join the US Visa Waiver Programme by the end of the year, or in early 2025.
Referring to the recent Strategic Dialogue inaugurated by the foreign ministers of both countries, the US Ambassador Mrs. Julie D. Fisher stated that this dialogue is a tool for developing bilateral relations in areas such as trade, science and technology, security, education, and people-to-people relations, reflecting the deep value of Cyprus as a partner to the US.
