Naturalisation is the legal process that allows a foreign national to obtain Cypriot Citizenship once she or he has met the legal criteria. In Cyprus dual Citizenship is allowed as there is no restrictions under the Civil Registry Law 2002 neither by the Treaty concerning the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus 1960, which means that an individual can be a Cypriot Citizen and also a citizen of another country. The individual is provided with all the necessary public documents such as passport, identity card and is being treated on the same way as the rest of the country’s citizens, regarding both its rights and obligations.
On the basis of the Civil Registry Law, Article 111, the application for Naturalization can be submitted by foreigners and their dependents who have completed a total of seven years of legal residency in the Republic of Cyprus before the submission date of the application. The applicant must have resided continuously in Cyprus through the last 1 year before applying. In cases of applicants who are children or parents of Cypriot citizens the time required is five years rather than seven.
How to obtain Cyprus Citizenship?
Provided that the above requirements are met, an application should be submitted to the Civil Registry and Migration Department along with documents evidencing fulfilment of the criteria.
